Volunteer with Meals on Wheels! ages 16+
WHEN: Friday, Dec 3, 2021 – 8:15 am-11 am. Please arrive on time as an on-site orientation will be done at the beginning of the shift.
WHERE: Central Kitchen, 3227 E 5th St. Loading will be done on the east side of our building along the long driveway.
WHAT: Volunteers will loading meals in to the trunks of our drivers. Each route typically has between 10-12 clients, and each client is receiving 2-weeks of meals. A single, one-week package of food weighs approximately 10-15 pounds and is about the size of a shoebox. This opportunity does require volunteers be able to lift 15 pound items repeatedly throughout the day.
PARKING: We have a small garage that tends to fill up quickly in the morning, but there is free street parking throughout the neighborhood. However, do not park on Allen Street directly next to our driveway, as that road will be used by drivers to check in.
CLOTHING: Closed-toed shoes are required, and comfortable clothing is recommended. Loading stations are located under our awning, but this is an outdoor activity and so please dress accordingly.
SAFETY: Face coverings are required during volunteering, and we ask that volunteers maintain social distancing when possible. Hand sanitizer is also provided at each station for use between cars/as needed.
WATER: Bottled water is available for volunteers, but we recommend bringing your own bottles/snacks. There will be a designated 10 minute break for each station.
