Speaker Information

Jeannette Diaz is dually licensed as a Registered Dental Hygienist and a Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice (RDHAP) in California. Jeannette has 15 years of clinical dental hygiene experience, including owning and operating a portable dental hygiene practice. Jeannette’s RDHAP practice primarily serves older adults and people with special healthcare needs. Jeannette currently works as a dental liaison for the California Department of Developmental Services and is an adjunct faculty at the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene’s online graduate program at MCPHS University.

Course Information

Course Title: Improving Patient Care for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Course Description: Health inequities persist for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs). People with IDDs experience poorer oral health and challenges accessing care. This course will evaluate barriers to care, identify complex factors contributing to oral health, and equip the dental provider with strategies to improve patient care for people with IDDs.

Course Objectives: 

1.  Evaluate barriers to oral care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs)

2.    Identify complex factors related to oral health of people with IDDs

3.    Discuss strategies to improve patient care of people with IDDs
